Mark Coleman: Celebrity Boxing Good For The Sport

Not many are more respected in MMA more so than Mark Coleman. A UFC hall of famer and the first ever UFC heavyweight champion, Coleman know’s so much about the sport. Seeing the boom of celebrity boxing, Coleman chimed in on the new sensation and had some rather good things to say about the sport’s newest fad.

Mark Coleman and Celebrity Boxing

While speaking with BetWay Insider, Coleman said that celebrity boxing with the likes of Logan and Jake Paul are good for what it brings to the table. He believes the eyes brought to the sport are desperately needed.

“The big thing now is obviously celebrity boxing, and I think it’s great. It’s great for boxing. It’s great for the MMA fighters.”

But, celebrity boxing is not everyone’s cup of tea. Mark Coleman says that is just fine. Everyone has the right to their own opinion and he is entitled to his. He feels that the opportunities brought to MMA fighters, boxers and more by the two really help to make their lives better.

“Anybody doesn’t see it that way, well, that’s their choice, but I think the more opportunities the better.”

Coleman actually enjoys the Paul brothers. They have ties to wrestling together and Coleman loves the bond they share through the sport he loves. In addition to that, there’s the Ohio connection between the Paul’s and Mark Coleman.

“I’m a curious person. We’re all curious people. Jake and Logan Paul, they actually come from Ohio, my home state. They both wrestled and wrestlers stick together for life,” says Coleman.

Coleman says the Paul brothers have some good lessons to learn. In an era where a large following can get you the big fights, he recognizes what an impact that is. Coleman knows the business is about getting eyes on the fights and that’s exactly what the Paul’s are doing.

“They worked hard to get to where they’re at with all the followers. And that’s where we’re at nowadays, it’s all about how many followers you got. That’s how you judge what a guy’s worth, and I think they’re worth every penny of it because people are tuning in. Even if they want to see them get their heads knocked off, well, they’re still tuning in to see that.”

Coleman says that the Paul bros are taking boxing seriously as well. He believes those guys are heading straight for MMA with their background in wrestling as well.

“I respect the fact that they’re trying to be the best boxers they can be, and I wouldn’t be too surprised if we see both those guys switching into MMA because I know they both have a wrestling background.”

Like them or not, Logan and Jake Paul are here. They are the number one attraction in boxing right now. The numbers back it up. With veterans of combat sports like Mark Coleman voicing their approval, more will follow. Coleman, being a legend of the sport, has the platform to make people realize just what they are actually seeing with celebrity boxing.
